Carnival masquerade themed wedding from Indian Wedding Planners in India

5 years ago, I told an Indian wedding decorator and planner that I loved the idea of whimsical wedding décor. Playful colors, loud patterns, hell—why not throw in a carousel?! She scrunched up her nose in disgust and said, “Isn’t that so childish though?”

Fast forward to present day and whatdya know, the #1 most popular Indian wedding theme for decorations (drum roll, please): CARNIVAL. And the results. Are. Stunning.

We’re talking block print patterns (a traditional Indian art form); bursts of bright, verdant blooms; playful pinwheels, and so much more. It’s the same fantastical, wild aesthetic that’s taking over the South Asian wedding fashion world (think designers like Papa Don’t Preach, Aisha Rao, and Siddhartha Bansal). But don’t take it from me! Here’s some inspiration to get your creative carnival juices flowing.

Because we’re all not trying to go broke on an actual ferris wheel, here’s a beautifully floral-bedecked one.

Immerse your guests into the carnival experience with a colorful, coordinated tent, perfect for an outdoor sangeet or mehndi.

Pink is a lovely base for this festive mehndi setup.

More flowers and ferris wheels? Yes, please!

My ferris wheel favorite is back! This time covered in twinkling lights and serving as an impressive stage display.

Now here’s a jaw dropping setup that’ll knock the socks off of your guests. A carousel. Ferris wheel centerpieces. Topped off with rows and rows of beautiful string lights.

When in doubt, stick with the classic red and white big top vibe, complete with black and white diamond floors.
