Writer, designer, and walking encyclopedia for South Asian weddings.

5 years ago, I told an Indian wedding decorator and planner that I loved the idea of whimsical wedding décor. Playful colors, loud patterns, hell—why not throw in a carousel?! She scrunched up her nose in disgust and said, “Isn’t that so childish though?”
Fast forward to present day and whatdya know, the #1 most popular Indian wedding theme for decorations (drum roll, please): CARNIVAL. And the results. Are. Stunning.
We’re talking block print patterns (a traditional Indian art form); bursts of bright, verdant blooms; playful pinwheels, and so much more. It’s the same fantastical, wild aesthetic that’s taking over the South Asian wedding fashion world (think designers like Papa Don’t Preach, Aisha Rao, and Siddhartha Bansal). But don’t take it from me! Here’s some inspiration to get your creative carnival juices flowing.
Festive Seating
Carousels + Ferris Wheels
Stationery + Signage
Wild Colors + Flowers
Quirky Installations
Food + Drink
Now that you’ve seen some pictures, how do you feel about carnival themed weddings? Share your thoughts with me in the comments below!
