Not a fan of the limitless options, throngs of people, and extended days of travel required for an India wedding shopping trip?
Then a visit to Surrey, British Columbia, might be the perfect shopping locale for you.
When I was planning my own wedding, I wanted to have a quick 2-3 day trip, pick out outfits for myself, my partner, and family members, and be DONE with it.
Surrey turned out to be the perfect place—I had a great time exploring some of the shops there in the little time that I had. I even managed to fit in some awesome sightseeing and dining experiences in Vancouver before we came back home.
Sure, you won’t have the endless rows of stores and shopping districts you’ll find in India. But for a lot of us busy gals on the go, less is more.
Check out these 8 recommendations for Surrey wedding shopping.
Made In India
First of all, let me just say how impressed I was with the set up of the boutiques in Canada. Imagine walking into a bridal boutique stateside, but instead of white wedding gowns everywhere you see lehngas on lehngas on lehngas in every. Color. Imaginable.
That’s the experience you’ll get when you go to Made in India, which is where I happened to find my wedding outfit.
Bridal and groomswear is kept in a large showroom off of the main shopping floor, and you, your partner, and your bridal party will have a wide array of clothes to choose from.
House of Raina is one that I didn’t get a chance to check out in person myself, but did receive feedback on from a few brides who went there during their shopping trips.
The smallest out of all the boutiques, House of Raina offers more unique, albeit pricier, designs, and is the first boutique in Surrey to sell designer labels like Payal Singhal, Shyamal & Bhumika, and Rohit Verma, in one location.
Out of all of the stores in this guide, you’ll find the most reasonable prices at Sunny’s Bridal. They also offer you the option of creating something totally custom—if that’s your thing.
Crossover Bollywood Se has a TON of locations throughout North America (New York, Indiana, Calgary, Surrey) and specializes more in custom created pieces rather than having a ton of off-the-rack options.
Absolutely worth checking out if you want a one-of-a-kind piece.
Bombay Couture is conveniently located in Payal Business Centre, a shopping center that is home to some of the other stores in this guide (like Wellgroomed and Crossover Bollywood Se), as well as other small shops that can take care of your wedding needs—like jewelry, fabric, props, shoes, and of course some delicious food to celebrate the end of a successful shopping day.
Get a feel for what Bombay Couture has to offer through their website, but you’ll find a better selection in-store.
You *can* get custom outfits created from Bombay Couture, although they don’t have menswear available at this location. To look at their menswear collection, you’ll have to visit their sister location, Bombay Collection, which is also located in Surrey.
Luxie Couture is the only store on our guide for Surrey that does NOT have a brick-and-mortar location. They predominantly operate through social media (Instagram, Facebook) and you can see the range of their work displayed there.
If you’re into their designs and you want to create something custom with them, it may be worth your while to schedule an appointment for an in-person meeting, or complete a fitting while you’re visiting Surrey.
