Concocting a fusion outfit on your own these days is easy.
The norm used to be buying a 3-piece outfit as a set. Designers these days sell individual pieces (or separates). They recognize that sometimes you don’t need a whole new pricey set, but just a blouse or skirt.
Which is awesome! But even though you don’t have to drop $300+ for an entire outfit, South Asian tops or bottoms can still cost a lot, especially if there’s a designer label attached to it.

What do we do if we want an affordable fusion outfit? I say we turn to our favorite Western stores and match those separates with our South Asian formal wear.
Hear me out—South Asian brands are integrating our favorite Western styles into their designs anyways. Think square necklines, bustier and corset tops, and cigarette pants.
If they’re emulating the tops that we *already* have in our closets, why not eliminate the middleman and use our existing wardrobe, or buy a separate that you know you’ll wear on repeat?

I tested my theory for Diwali by pairing a mauve ASTR The Label blouse with a skirt from a Poonam’s Kaurture lehnga I bought for a family wedding.
Voila! A brand new, budget friendly, on trend, fusion formal outfit.
To help you throw together your own fusion outfit, I put together this list of tops and blouses from a personal favorite of mine (you guessed it), ASTR The Label. Their blouses are good quality, fit well, and ship quickly. Plus, they look sensational on.
