Whatever Happened to Priyanka Chopra's "The Sangeet Project"?

Greenlit by Amazon Studios before the pandemic, the show was inspired by Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra's sangeet.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas

On to today’s controversial topic: Priyanka Chopra! I could be reading the elephant in the room incorrectly, but it feels like there’s not a lot of love lost for PC among us South Asians in the US.

And look, I see how a lot of people got there. I’m not immune to clickbait and TikTok drama! I watched the BeautyCon debacle, heard the SRK affair rumors, and cringed at “hater’s gonna hate, potatoes gonna potate, rotis gonna rotate.”

All of which makes me all the more curious about what you think of “The Sangeet Project,” a reality dance competition produced by Amazon Studios and hosted by PC and Nick Jonas.

The concept

There’s not a lot of information about this show, partly because it was announced that filming and production would take place in 2020, the year everything stopped thanks to the pandemic.

We do, however, have the general gist: Cameras will follow engaged couples, their friends, and families from different South Asian cultures and locations as they prepare an extravagant performance for their sangeet. To take their performances from meh to amazing, they’ll be guided by a group of Bollywood creative directors, choreographers, and stylists.

Is it still happening?

There is zip zilch zero recent news on the status of “The Sangeet Project.” That doesn’t mean the PC wedding content is stopping—she is currently working on an Indian wedding comedy with Mindy Kaling

What do you think about "The Sangeet Project"?

This is the part where I want to hear what you think about “The Sangeet Project.” Are you excited about this show? Would you apply to participate, or even watch it? Do you wish there were other representations of South Asians in entertainment beyond “Indian Matchmaking” and weddings?
